# Can you remember being born?
Joi and Care originated from "Projekt Zenith," a top-secret genetic engineering facility located in the heartlands of Germany. Inside the sterile, cold confines of this clandestine lab, they were birthed from the same set of incubators. Intriguingly, their advanced incubation technology allowed them to be conscious during the final stages of this process, giving them memories from moments before their "birth." This shared consciousness during their formation deepened their bond as siblings and made their experience all the more unique.

For Care, the final stages inside the incubator represented the only time in her life when she was completely free from fears, pain, or problems. It was in this encapsulating environment of warmth and safety that she felt truly at peace. This profound experience later translated into an affinity for situations that replicated the feeling of being enclosed in a protective "hull," so to speak. It offered her a reminiscent sense of security, similar to the comfort she felt while in the incubator. It became a coping mechanism, a way to momentarily escape the harsh realities that followed their escape from the lab.

Despite being created under the same circumstances, the pair responded differently to their past traumas. Joi, although socially anxious, could manage to engage in conversations, albeit in a quiet and sometimes distant manner. Care, on the other hand, was far more profoundly affected. The mere sight of a syringe or the word "doctor" could elicit from her an emotional response so severe it could only be described as paralyzing.

Their lives took a significant turn when a wave of human rights actions against unethical genetic experiments led to the sudden shutdown of Projekt Zenith. Seizing the opportunity, Joi and Care escaped the facility, their steps hastened by the haunting memories of surgical steel and cold examination tables.

Their freedom, however, came with its own set of complications. Due to their unique genetic makeup—part tanuki, part human—they found themselves in a legal gray area. They were not considered fully sentient beings, but rather properties or assets. It wasn't long before they were auctioned off to a shadowy corporation interested in exploiting their unique abilities.

Assigned to Space Station 13, they were tasked with the collection of rare elements and data for their corporate owners. While they were treated as assets by the company, the crew on the station showed varying degrees of acceptance and understanding. Each mission posed a new set of challenges for Joi and Care, from the technical difficulties of rare element collection to the social dynamics of a crew that could never fully understand their complex history.

Yet, despite these adversities, the two found solace in each other. They were bound not merely by the shared scars and markings that adorned their bodies, but by a deeper emotional and psychological connection. Together, they navigated a world that still struggled to recognize their very right to exist, fortified by the understanding that they were each other's truest sanctuary.
